
POST HISTORY
On a hill in Woodsboro you will find Glen W. Eyler American Legion Post 282. Within its walls many enjoyable hours have been spent at meetings, programs and special events.
Glen W. Eyler Post 282 was formed in the summer of 1959 by a group of veterans all dedicated to supporting issues and causes related to the growing number of veterans in the Glade Valley area.
Today Post 282 is a 4 star post with membership roles in excess of 500 members. In addition to the main Legion body, Post 282 has one on the largest SAL Squadrons in the Department of Maryland, A very active American Legion Auxiliary, and growing American Legion Riders chapter.
Post 282’s regular meetings are held the third Wednesday of every month.
The post supports a wide range of activities contributing heavily to organizations in the Glade Valley such as The Woodsboro's Town Park, Woodsboro New Midway Recreation Council, area Fire Departments and Rescue Squads. Post 282 is very active at the Martinsburg VA Hospital, and awards several college scholarships, as well as many other Children and Youth functions and Camp WestMar.
One of the Legions annual highlights is the Memorial Day Parade and service which draws hundreds of participants and spectators.
